Nelson Marinho, 94 years old, of Chicago, IL, passed away on September 28, 2026 to join and rest in peace with his wife, Aida Marinho who passed on September 14, 2026.

Nelson was born on March 29, 1932, in Viana do Castelo, Portugal to Narciso Carlos Pires Marinho and Maria Fernanda do Fernandes. Nelson was raised on a farm where he developed a love for the land and getting into mischief. At 18, he joined the Portuguese Navy and spent the next 10 years traveling the Atlantic Ocean and the Congo River while stationed around Mozambique, Angola and Cape Verde.

Nelson moved to New Jersey where he met his wife Aida and had two daughters. They relocated their family to Florida where they welcomed two more daughters. They spent 50 years in Florida until moving up to Chicago in 2022.

Nelson spent many years in engineering and went on to be an entrepreneur in the automotive and machinery industries. In his leisure time, he could be found watching boxing or soccer or cooking incredible meals for large groups of friends. His greatest love was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Debbie Castorino, Donna Carter, Maria Marinho Sepsis (Konstantine Sepsis), Maryann Marinho; eight grandchildren, Bobby Castorino, Anthony Castorino (Rosie Castorino), Troy Carter, Stash Jackowski, Alexandra Sepsis, Tiago Jackowski and Theodore Sepsis; five great-grandchildren, Summer Castorino, Danika Castorino, Reese Castorino, Vincent Castorino, and Zane Carter. He was preceded in death by his wife Aida Marinho, his sisters Maria Amelia and Maria Augusta and his granddaughter Jessica Castorino.

A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, September 29th at 10am at St. Helen Church at 2315 W. Augusta Blvd., Chicago.
