Obituary

Betty Speers, beloved wife for 54 years of the late Donald B. Speers.  Loving daughter of the late Theresa and Henry Leder.  Most loving mother of Stephen (Susan), Susan (Kevin) Mooney and Sandra (Paul) Striedl.  Loving and proud grandmother of Thomas, Stephanie and Michael Speers and Melanie and Kurt (Valentina) Striedl.  Great grandmother to Leo Striedl.  Cousin and friend to multitudes.  Enthusiastic admirer of all things butterfly.

Mom passed away in her own home in Norridge, per her wishes, where she lived since 1956.  It was the place where her husband and mother passed away.  Mom wrote her own obituary when she was in her seventies because she wanted to make sure her parents were mentioned.  We updated it to show her love of butterflies, her grandson's marriage and the birth of her great grandson last year.  Dementia robbed her of many of her memories but she still had a smile ready for us.

No flowers, please (Mom never could smell them anyways).  If you feel the need to do something, the Seniors Assistance Center in Norridge ( agingcareconnections.org ), the Monarch Joint Venture (for fellow butterfly lovers monarchjointventure.org ) or the Norridge Salvation Army ( salvationarmyusa.org/il/norridge ) would all appreciate donations.
