Obituary

Anthony (Tony) Barone of Queens Creek, Arizona, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 5, 2026. He was 92. Tony was born in Chicago, Illinois, on January 13, 1934, and spent most of his life in the Chicagoland area before moving to Arizona in 2022.

Though not the first, and certainly not the last, Tony born of the Barone/Sabia lineage, our sweet Tony was one of a kind. The only child of Vito Antonio (Tony) and Mildred Barone - Tony was born and raised surrounded by a loving family. He grew up in a 3-flat on the West Side of Chicago with his parents, aunts, uncles, grandmother, and his dear cousins Joe and Vince Serritella. Tony loved to tell stories of the good old days.

Tony wed the love of his life, Carol Barone, née Gaddy, on April 7, 1973. Tony is survived by Carol and his two children, Anthony (Maria) Barone and Andrea (David) Godziela. He will be welcomed in Heaven by his son, Richard Barone, who passed away early last year. Tony was cherished by his grandchildren, Camillo (Sara) Barone, Dominic (Kaitlynn) Barone, Virginia (John) Yoo, Madeline Godziela, and Mia Barone. He was also blessed with a greatgrandchild, Isabella Barone. Tony, a veteran of the Korean War and a fiercely strong man, had a soft spot always for his grandchildren, insisting each one become a doctor! (One ofthem is on their way, and he was just as proud of the others).

Family, to Tony, extended beyond blood. He was loved by the many people he worked with over the years and by his church community. Tony was thought of as a brother by several friends who he will be reunited with in heaven. Tony was always a hard worker. He spent 35 years working for the Chicago Park District, from part-time in high school to Director of Special Events’ Parking. After retiring from the Park District, he spent 13 years driving a school bus for the St. Charles School District and was president of the driver’s union. Throughout his life, Tony was dedicated to his family and his work - but he also took great joy in his hobbies: cheering on the Chicago Bears and Cubs, following the rises and falls of the stock market, and watching every single Western ever created - twice. Later in life, Tony’s favorite hobby was showing off photos of his great-grandchild Izzy.

Tony’s life was one of great peace. Not because he was always dealt a winning hand (though he did love to bet on football), but because he paved an existence marked by kindness and understanding. His faith was strong, he enjoyed over 50 years of marriage with his wonderful wife Carol, and he remained a constant source of love for his children and grandchildren. When life threw challenges his way - Tony navigated them with an always calm, always faithful hand. Anyone who knows Tony knows it was, and always will be, All good!

The memorial service for Anthony Barone will be held on September 22 from 10 a.m. at Berean Baptist Church, 39801 N Prince Ave, San Tan Valley, AZ 85140.
